You absolutely need to engage a qualified white-collar criminal attorney as soon as you get any inkling that you’re under investigation, because most investigations take a year or two to complete before charges are filed. That gives the prosecutor a huge advantage in terms of time in which they’ve invested in the investigation. As soon as you find out that you’re under investigation, you need to have a qualified attorney and group of investigators shadowing that investigation so that you can be prepared as soon as possible to meet the challenges posed by that, this investigation and challenge whatever evidence that they have developed, and convince them that either you should not be charged or that they should return lesser charges than they we’re contemplating.
